Angie Culver – Equestrian Profile

Angie CulverAngie’s career with horses began aged 10 where she learned to ride at a local riding school. She remained a student for 6 years. Upon leaving school she embarked on a career with horses and studied for her Grooms Diploma. 18 months later she was employed at a livery and training yard run by Graham Oldfield. She has ridden competitively for a number of owners in hunter trials, show jumping and dressage.

In association with Lorri Ould she became involved with Spanish horses and was offered the ride on Jaleo, a PRE gelding; they were a successful combination in showing and dressage. Angie is now continuing her training on Lorri’s PRE stallion Zurito XXIII and has accepted the invitation to compete on him.

Angie sets high standards on the yard at West Spring Stud, has excellent administrative skills and is fully conversant with the handling, training and management of the stallions. She is a dedicated member of West Spring Stud’s small team, employs great humour and meets every challenge with professional determination.

Lorri Ould – Equestrian Profile

Lorri Ould Owner of the West Spring StudLorri has a lifetime’s worth of experience with ponies and horses. She began riding at 8 years old and purchased her first unbroken New Forest colt when she was 11. A number of ponies and horses followed, along with trips to local shows. She travelled to Dubai with her parents as a teenager and was able to work-ride for HH the Emir Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, exercising his many Arab stallions.

As a young woman she competed on her own horses and was offered the ride on others. During a period of living and working in the Cotswolds she spent a season hunting with the Beaufort as part of her duties as a groom and nanny. On returning to Kent, Lorri was introduced to an owner and began showing in Hunter classes. An Arab stallion had also been offered to her for exercising and he was subsequently acquired by her. During this period, Jack Weatherley employed her to assist with his carriage driving horses and as an extra driver for his livestock haulage business.

The PRE colt, Zurito XXIII was purchased after much research into the breed aged 8 months. He was carefully produced by Lorri and successfully shown inhand as a youngster. Lorri, with the assistance of Sara Howe prepared him to be both driven and ridden. She also sought training from Peter Maddison-Greenwell and made monthly trips to Northamptonshire to continue with her and Zurito’s dressage education.

Under Peter’s guidance they performed a pas-de-deux in public at the 2002 BAPSH National Championship Show with Diane Hesketh of the Vynwny Stud, riding Zurito’s sire, Conquistador. Lorri was subsequently invited to join El Caballo de Espana, Peter’s riding display team.

Alongside the public displays in costume, Lorri introduced Zurito to competition dressage and ridden showing classes which saw many notable wins. Jaleo, the PRE gelding came to Lorri and together with Angie this horse was produced for competition. He also took part in the final Viva Espana Show with El Caballo de Espana at London’s Olympia.
