Short term Livery including Stallions

West Spring Stud specialise in offering a livery service specifically for Iberian horses, correctly known as Pura Raza Espanola and Lusitano.  With a history of involvement with the breeds and specifically in showing we have developed the stud to help owners improve their knowledge of these very special horses.

Short term, training livery, holiday cover, full and d.i.y. livery for stallions.

Subject to availability West Spring Stud livery offers the following facilities:-

• Stabling for stallions in large brick-built stables
• All stables fitted with The Stable Mat flooring
• Individual post & rail paddocks with top line electric fencing
• Large Charles Britton rubber-surfaced floodlight arena
• Off road riding track around the fields
• Priority given to liveries on clinics with visiting trainers
• Holiday livery can be arranged for short term stays
• Assistance with show preparation
• Fullsize training dressage mirrors
• Comfortable tea-room with T.V. microwave and fridge
• Water heater and washing machine in the tack room
• Toilet, washbasin and changing facilities

Turnout and grazing for your horse.

Horses should graze in well managed, securely fenced paddocks; this ensures the horse is safe and nutritionally provided from a good grass management system. At West Spring Stud, we ensure our paddocks are maintained to produce quality nutrients from a rye and meadow grass mix, natural shade, fresh water changed daily and a pleasant, quiet environment.

Quality stabling and procedures.

Our stable management begins with each stable having a ¾ inch thick pure rubber flooring mat supplied by the UK’s premier rubber matting company, The Stable Mat. On top of this is placed quality clean wood shavings or wheat straw which encourages the horse to rest whilst lying down. The bedding provides easy control for waste to be removed without generating any unpleasant odours. The edges of the beds are banked and turned regularly. We use water buckets rather than automatic water fillers so we can monitor the amount of water the horses drink. All water and feed buckets are meticulously cleaned daily.

Feeding your horse.

Our feed is supplied and delivered by Speedgate Farm, we use top quality feed from well-known horse feed manufacturers such as Dobson & Horrell, Baileys Horse Feeds and Kent based Saracen Horse Feeds. The feed is then stored in vermin-proof containers. Mineral or herbal supplements can be added where necessary. Horses are fed according to their weight, type or breed and work. Good quality meadow hay is fed and is grown and produced by West Spring Stud. Haylage can be fed if required.

Farriers.

We recognise that a choice of farrier for horse-shoeing is entirely personal. Our horses are presently unshod, but are assessed, inspected and trimmed by Clive Meers-Rainger of Equine Foot Protection, every 6 weeks without fail. The balance and quality of your horses’ hooves, regardless of whether they are shod or barefoot, will dictate how your horse moves and whether he remains sound. Hoof care is often neglected but it is one of THE most important factors governing responsible horse ownership.

Horse Exercise and grooming.

West Spring Stud will provide loose schooling, lunging, walking in hand, hacking or ridden schooling. Horses can receive a basic groom or benefit from a full strapping which develops muscle tone and promotes well-being.

Veterinary.

In reasonably close proximity is Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic, Kent’s premier RCVS accredited practice and equine hospital. Bell Equine provides a broad range of services including surgery, diagnostic imaging, dental care, physiotherapy and reproductive medicine.

West Spring Stud’s objective is to deliver a first class livery and training service for Spanish and Lusitano horses in Kent, tailored to the individual customer’s requirements.

West Spring Stud full livery is available to discerning customers on a longer contract basis.
