Mecano VI on loan to West Spring Stud – Mecano III – Joncosa
Mecano is a beautiful bright bay with a golden tinge to his coat. At 15.2 he is a typical example of the more compact PRE. His bloodlines carry strong influences of Yeguada Militar, Salvador Guardiola Fantoni and Manuel Bohorquez Ruiz. On his dam’s side, Remate – the famous bullfighting horse of Mr Alvaro Domecq Diez is Mecano’s grand sire.
The very influential Centella V, a previous Champion of Spain is Mecano’s paternal grand sire. Mecano will be produced for showing as he possesses the wonderful flamboyant action of the more traditional Spanish horse. He would compliment any breed of horse and particularly the larger pony breeds. Mecano joined West Spring Stud in October 2011 for re-schooling and is standing at stud with the permission of his owner.

Producing a Part bred
With an ability to effectively transfer their genetic traits; the influence of a PRE, when crossed with any number of different breeds can improve and enhance those breeds. This often results in offspring which carry excellent movement and temperament whilst maintaining the essence of the dam breed.
Popular crosses come from the Thoroughbred, or the Quarter Horse. The Arab will produce a recognised breed, namely the Hispano-Arabe, these horses can be registered in their own stud book. An Anglo-Arab bred with a PRE will produce a Tres-Sangres – this is not a breed which has its’ own register, but one which is recognised, especially in Spain. Possessing the best attributes from the three breeds, this type of horse has quick expressive reactions, and is an intelligent, athletic and trainable equine.
Gaining in popularity is the Norman horse, whereby a Percheron mare is crossed with a PRE stallion. This produces a beautiful weight-carrying horse which can cover the ground effortlessly and yet remain light and responsive.
Welsh section C and D mares also make a popular choice to cross with a PRE, as do all the larger native ponies. The PRE is beginning to appeal to some continental Warmblood owners. They admit to looking to gain advantages by infusing Spanish breeding, as the PRE is bestowed with the ability to collect its’ movements with relative ease.
